Scottish Sheep on Dartmoor-The Ronnies

| One of the oldest of the short tail breeds of sheep from the island of North Ronaldsay, Orkney Islands. They are small sheep but very hardy with excellent fleeces. They are slow growing and so like most of the rare breeds are no longer kept as commercial flocks.
The meat is excellent i think largely because of this slow maturation.They are also renowned for their ability, on their native island, to exist on a diet of seaweed and shore grass. The handsome mother in the picture is Kola.
This breed is on the Rare Breeds Trust Watch List for 2007 classified as "Endangered". For more info see
